The Daddy Cool Show, Part 2
Where did Canadian blues musicians get their inspiration when they were young and developing their craft?
I had the opportunity to hear the answer every Monday night on Toronto’s CFNY “Daddy Cool” show in the late 70s and on through the 80s.
I taped most of these shows as the years passed.
Daddy Cool’s weekly show was perhaps the greatest radio experience one could have if one was interested in where rock ’n' roll came from.
Here’s a sample show from 1987 featuring incredibly rare music (Daddy Cool was an extremely knowledgeable collector)(Part 1 flows right into Part 2—the second half-hour—after a pause) (or click on Part 2 below the video).
And for those in a hurry:
Go to 22:12 in the second hour (Part 2) and hear Cookie and the Cupcakes performing “Got You On My Mind” (1963)—you’ll feel you’re at the center of the multiverse as long as you have the song on!!!
