Marshall McLuhan to Eleanor Austin | 3 October 1969

Eleanor Austin, secretary for Fr. John Kelly, President of McLuhan's college from 1958-78, replaced Marg Stewart as McLuhan's secretary when Ms. Stewart broke her hip in May, 1978.

As reported in Philip Marchand's biography (1989) of McLuhan, Austin left McLuhan's voluminous files and records in a shambles when the Coach House was closed in June, 1980.

When Stewart and McLuhan made one last visit to the Coach House, McLuhan wept when he saw the mess in his office.
